Tips For Fashion Week Looks

Forget about Fashion Week hype and the mad scramble to get “the look” and pay attention to what really matters. These looks are made for more than just a style, but for feeling good and empowering yourself on any given day. The basic idea is to work out what you like and what your favorites are and incorporate them into your daily routine. It doesn’t matter if you have a pretty face, big lips, or big booty. Find what works for YOU, and there is no need to go out and buy everything on the runways … you’ll just end up spending too much money and stressing yourself out.

There are designers out there who are making clothes for real women who want to feel good about themselves, not just look pretty. I’m talking pants that fit your body, tops that flatter your curves rather than hiding them, and shoes that are comfortable and stand the test of time. Style is about making a statement, not living up to someone else’s standards.

Tips from the Pros

*Colour: Try to go with colors that you like. Do you see yourself wearing pink all the time? Go for a bright pink, or maybe a bold purple. Don’t be afraid to wear stripes or patterns if you like, and don’t be afraid to mix pieces that have different shades of color together.

*Stay away from patterns: Patterns are hard to wear on their own—you have to play up your other things in order to make them work. These can be worn as an accent or to mix in with a solid piece, but don’t go out and buy a bunch of polka-dot pants (unless you actually want polka-dot pants). An exception to this is stripes, which are great. A lot of times they look best when they graduate in size as they go down your body. That way, you get the whole effect of the stripe without making it too overwhelming.

*Dress up your everyday pieces: Wear them with a pair of boots and a black trench coat and you’re ready to wear them to the office. Go for comfy pants, a fitted sweater, and flat shoes. By repurposing your everyday wardrobe, you are adding more variety to your style repertoire and allowing it to grow with you as you change into different looks throughout the day.
