Roller shades are a great way to stay relaxed and in control of your home. They can be used to keep out the light when you need it or let the light in when you’d like some natural lighting. You can also use them for tasks such as adjusting the amount of air that passes through your room or lowering your heating bill by blocking those pesky rays during winter.
They are also a great way to lower your energy bill by blocking UV rays and heat. They are very easy to operate and install, even easier than curtains.
Roller shades can also be used as a privacy screen, blocking out prying eyes or simply when you want some extra privacy. They look stylish and elegant in any room of the home or office.
I’ve found that it’s best to measure from the top of the window down to the center of where you’d like your shade to end. This ensures that your shade goes into place and will cover the entire window.
Once you decide on a length, you can measure the width of the window and measure how many of the same length roller shades. This is good for matching up colors or for when you’d like to have different roller shades in one room.
Here’s a simple way to install them:
1-Measure from top to bottom of the opening, then from side to side. Write these numbers down.
2-Measure the length of roller shade you’d like to purchase. Write that number down as well. Next, measure from the top of the window to where you’d like your shade to stop and write that number down as well.
3-Measure from the top of your roller shade down to where you’d like it to end and write that number down. This is the most important measurement because it will be used to determine how much to cut off of your roller shade.
4-Determine Your Width: This part is simple. Just measure the width of your window and add one inch to that number. Take this number, multiply it by two, and that’s how wide your shade will be (This is the length). Measure from top to bottom on both sides of your window and add one inch each time. This will be the total length of your roller shade.
5-Cut off the top portion of your shade: This is a little bit tricky if you don’t have a good way to cut (router, snips, scissors, etc.). You can try to use a handyman trick that involves folding out your shade and pushing the fabric towards you before cutting away the excess. This method is relatively safe because you are only taking off the top piece and not any parts that attach to each other.
